When playing online, many people fear the possible risk of the security of the site not being up to standards. This is an important thing to keep in mind when you browse through poker clients, however; our rooms at winatpoker all have secure programs. Also, when playing online the decision has to be made by players whether or not to play for real or play money. This really depends on what you are interested in, and if you feel comfortable playing real money on the internet. With that said, I want to just add in that playing online with play money does not emit a realistic playing scenario in which you could learn from. Players online do not care how much they lose if the money is fake, so they will constantly go all in and bet with nothing, so this does not allow you to improve your skills. I would recommend for all the beginner players out there to try and play some online poker for small stakes, $2-$4 limit games are perfect for beginners because of the small stakes. The online situation is a lot less intimidating then going to a casino and playing with potential card sharks that will round you and clear out your wallet.
Furthermore, playing on poker eliminates one aspect of poker that ruins and gives away many beginner players and that is a tell. When you play online you don't have to worry about the guy next to you being able to read your face or pick up on your tells. It is nice to be able to not have to worry about this, and when beginning this really helps you focus on the actual game itself and leaves the most room for improvement. Although, I have spoken very highly of the online poker community, I do not encourage that you only play online poker. Poker is a game of reads, observations, odds, minds, deception, and numerous other things, much of which you can simply not experience by playing online. In my opinion, it is best if you learn online, and then take this knowledge to the home games or casinos and start playing there. I play at casinos and home games, and I still find time to play online poker because I can't get enough of the game. Hopefully you will one day try to do the same thing, and share the passion of poker with me.
